The duty to manage
If you are responsible for non-domestic premises, including farm buildings used for business, you are expected to assess whether asbestos is present, keep an up-to-date record, assess the risk and make a plan to manage it.
Farms
Large cement roofs on barns and stores are the usual issue. Fragile sheets, height and soft ground make access the main risk. Removal and re-roofing are often combined.
Schools and public buildings
Asbestos management plans and registers are part of normal running. Works are planned around term time, with containment and clear communication.
Commercial and industrial
Units and warehouses may have asbestos in roofs, cladding, ducts, floor tiles and insulation board. Surveys come first for refurbishment or sale.
